Banner Elk, of The High Country is a quaint but cultural community. Banner Elk host some of the best winter and summer activities. The winter time offers skiing, sledding, tubing, ice skating, snow boarding and all winter fun.With 4 ski resorts within 30 minutes of each other, visitors have many choices from Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Hawks Ridge and Appalachain Ski Resorts. There are many winter vacation rentals for your stay. During the summer months you can join in the fun at the famous “Wooley Worm” Festival, the “Highland Games” the 4th of July parade, go white water rafting, hiking in Grandfather Mountain, canoeing, boating and visit the Linville Caves. There is always something to do in this quaint community.Season is December thru March Spring April through August and Fall where the rich colors appear September and October.
Banner Elk Chamber and the Avery Watauga Chamber of Commerence are both very active in our communites. They sponmsor our 4th of July Parade,Winter Parade, Summer and winter concerts and our world famous “Woolley Worm Festival” held the 3rd week of October every year. The Banner Elk Chamber is located on Main Street next to The Village Shops and the Avery Chamber is located in Tynecastle on Hwy 105 and Hwy 184 intersection.
